Sarah Clancy
Sarah is a returning architectural intern at MJM+A. She is working this summer at our NYC headquarters and then returns to High Point University in North Carolina to complete her Master’s in Communications and Business Leadership, complementing her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.
Sarah’s initial attraction to architecture began when she first took some interior design courses at High Point University. When one of her professors said, “an interior designer is licensed in everything an architect is except for load-bearing walls,” it all clicked for her. She felt that as architecture is a combination of engineering and art, this was a natural calling for her. Although she’s always enjoyed mathematics, Sarah could never look at a screen of numbers all day so she really embraces the more creative side of her projects while leveraging her innate ability to handle the technical aspects. Sarah’s true passion became a combination of interior design and architecture that is known throughout the industry as “final layer.”
One of her favorite structures is the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona, which she visited when she was 16. Sarah: “I remember being in complete awe of all the thought that was put into this building that is still being constructed over 100 years later. Every minute detail was taken into consideration, and that is the level of dedication that I hope to put into my own projects one day.”
Sarah’s first experience in architecture was at MJM+A, and she came back not only because of all that she was able to learn in such a short time, but also due to how she saw the culture of the office. “MJM+A really feels like a family who are all rooting for each other to do their best”.
Sarah sees her future in architecture as very bright (and it’s not because she has two different color eyes!) In fact, after her graduation in May from her current Master’s program, she is already planning to apply to various Master of Architecture programs for entry in the fall of 2024.
