Bryan Gonzalez
MJM+A Architects is pleased to introduce Bryan Gonzalez, a graduate from the New York City College of Technology where he achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Technology. A Brooklyn native, he began his career at MJM+A Architects as a Draftsperson, and quickly rose to the position of Assistant Project Manager. Bryan’s command of a broad range of architectural digital tools is particularly impressive, and compliments the streamlined and efficient project management process at MJM+A.
Bryan is passionate about New York City architecture, focusing on building infrastructure, history, sustainability, and resilient design. His studies and experience have yielded a rich knowledge of construction documenting, NYC Zoning and Building Codes analysis, project delivery methods and Construction Administration.
Originally interested in a career in construction, Bryan initially attended City Tech as a Civil Engineering major. After a discussion with his advisor, he migrated his major to Architecture. “I didn’t know much about the profession but quickly understood it would allow me to express my creativity, building upon my experience in construction. In my mind, Architecture is the art of designing a functional building or space. The process of designing—be it a building, a store, a park, or street and considering the way it can impact people and the environment has fascinated me.”
“One of the most interesting and most complex aspects of Architecture is balancing the aesthetics of a design with the functionality. For example, one of my favorite structures is the Whitney Museum designed by Renzo Piano. To some, it may not be the best-looking building in New York City yet the way it adapts seamlessly into its surroundings amazes me. Standing under the cantilevered entrance and then maneuvering through the galleries to elevated views of the Hudson River and High Line makes it feel like it’s more than just a museum. Knowing that one can initiate a positive change to the built environment through design continues to feed my passion and reinforce my choice of architecture as a career.”
Bryan joined the team at MJM+A as he wanted the broad knowledge that a smaller firm yields instead of the division of labor typically found at larger companies. He enjoys the opportunity to be a part of all stages of the design and construction process and gain a deeper understanding of the profession in an accelerated time frame.
From a personal standpoint, he has many interests outside of the drafting room, including an affinity towards art. “I enjoy drawing and painting. Few people know this, but I would often submit my work to be published on the school’s paper and help teachers with art projects for their class.”
